Dinner and a movie

This piece exposes the mind of someone with an eating disorder.  I utilized certain objects that speak to the idea of food portions and manipulated the photo to visually communicate a "fractured" sense of being. I overcame an eating disorder and made this piece to raise awareness about the experience. My hope is that we are kind and mindful of others as many struggle to overcome situations unfamiliar to us.

  Loss is so much more than physically losing someone from the earth. It can feel like a part of you is suddenly gone, a void in your life. This image portrays emotions associated with the grieving process. The person lost is obviously not there, but sometimes you can feel them pulling at you and you can hold on to their memories to the point where they are pulling you down. Letting go can be one of the hardest things you can do when losing a person and that is the main message I wanted to convey.

( Burst, 4032x3024 px, photoshop) "Touch seems to be as essential as sunlight" (Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses, 80) When reading this I thought of all of the feelings that come touch such as connection, happiness, and warmth, and how they are truly as essential as sunlight. I chose to make the background black because I wanted to really contrast the brightness of the "sunlight" to the darkness. Touch is such an essential thing in our lives just like the sun.  (Touch light as a feather, 20x10 inches, feathers, tape, paint, baking soda) "Skin can take a startling variety of shapes: claws, spines, hooves, feathers, scales, hair."  (Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses, 68) When reading this part I thought of a hand morphing, blooming, and exploding into something else.
